APEX Gymnastics Crowns Champions at States & Regionals
APEX boys and girls teams have had a busy spring competing in meets both virtually and in person. Gymnasts have competed in Virginia Beach, Pennsylvania and right here in Leesburg over the past few weeks.
The APEX boys team travelled to Pennsylvania to compete in the Region 7 competition on April 10th & 11th. Level 6 Jack Wilson was crowned Regional Champion on pommel horse at this event competing with gymnasts from VA, PA, NJ, NY, MD and DE. He also finished 5th on vault, 3rd on high bar and 6th all around. Other level 6 highlights include Kieran Marquez 5th place finish on floor, rings and 4th place on high bar, Jake Carbary finished 5th on vault and 6th on parallel bars. Level 5s Omar Behiri finished 6th on vault and Rourke McCallum netted a 4th place on rings! Congratulations to all of the boys team members!
The APEX girls Level 8 team was competing in Manassas and the team brought home many top three finishes. Ella Sloane Griffin finished with silver on vault and floor and bronze in the junior all around. Sadie Blackmon came away with the silver on beam. In the senior division, Pia Patel came away with her own silver on vault and floor. Lizzy Ebersole was second on beam and third on bars and Ava Buckner won bronze on floor.
The girls level 6 & 7 teams were competing virtually right here in Leesburg. Gabby Beale was crowned the state champion on vaulting and finished with a bronze medal in the all around. Other highlights include Lexi Scott finished 5th on vault and floor and Alana Woehr finished 4th place on floor. In the senior age groups, Kate Stone led the way with a bronze on vaulting. At Level 7, Shea Finney finished 5th on vault and 4th in the all around. Haley Patel also medaled with a 4th place on vault. The girls Level 9 & 10 teams rounded out their season with Regionals in Pennsylvania. APEX had four seniors finish up their Junior Olympic gymnastics career at Regionals. Seniors Maria Alexandrou finished 4th on bars and Marlena Costanzo finished 9th on vault at Level 9. Junior Lauren Greene finished 9th on bars at Level 10. Sophomore Maelyn Molden finished 10th all around at her first Level 9 Regionals. Region 7 is comprised of gymnasts from VA, PA, NJ, NY, MD and DE.
APEX is sending five gymnasts off to continue athletics in college this year. Makaila Knoerzer & Marlena Costanzo will compete on scholarship in Acro & Tumbling at Limestone University. Dilara Michlena will compete on scholarship at Presbyterian College in South Carolina. Maria Alexandrou will continue her athletics as a cheerleader at William & Mary and Emma Nuwer will compete on the gymnastics team at the University of Delaware.
